As God miraculously opened door after
door for the spunky new Christian, Tan moved to Malang, East Java
where she attended the South East Asian Seminary.
Two years later she received a
scholarship to study at Azusa Pacific University in the United
States of America. She left behind a well-established career as a
journalist and columnist, and recognition as Indonesia’s first
Christian novelist. Her in depth knowledge of the 1965 Indonesian
Communist coup and God’s handiwork within it, is captured in her
first American novel,
THE CALLING.
In 1996 she founded IN HIM Ministries,
“a sobering and unpretentious outreach” to the unsaved and those in
bondages. One of the ministries' ongoing missions is the mentoring
and discipling of young Christian women.
Tan's testimony of God's grace and faithfulness is
unfolded in her finished auto-biographical novel, IF I RIDE THE MORNING WIND.
This title is taken from Psalms 139, an antidote for those who
struggle with issues of rejections.
When she left for the United States an Immigration
official in Indonesia had, unbeknownst to Betsy, stamped on her passport the word
“missionary”. Betsy saw that as an
assignment from God and in whatever she does in Jesus' name, outreach
is always her intent.
A TRUTHFUL,
MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER
Tan is an experienced, Christian motivational
speaker who speaks the Truth
with compassion and great sense of humor. As a strong prayer warrior she proclaims the Victory of
the Cross, having gone through many fires in her lifetime. She
will be available for individual prayers after the sessions.
Tan has never charged a speaking fee, relying
instead on the body of Christ to provide for travel
and lodging expenses
. A portion of any love offerings received will be
donated to the persecuted Church in Indonesia.
